‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah,’ one of the longest-running comedy shows on TV, has recently faced backlash from its fans. Disappointed viewers took to social media to express their frustration with the show’s latest storyline.
The drama began when it was hinted that actress Disha Vakani, known for her role as Dayaben, would be making a return to the show. The series, currently celebrating 15 years on the air, raised hopes among fans for Daya’s comeback.
The largest verified fan page of the show shared a video on Instagram, where Jethalal (played by Dilip Joshi) tells his son Tapu that Dayaben, his mother, will be returning from Ahmedabad for Diwali. Jethalal reveals that Sundar, Daya’s on-screen brother, has promised to bring her back.
However, when the episode aired, it turned out to be a hoax as Daya did not return to the show. In the scene, Jethalal is seen shedding tears upon learning that Daya did not return with her brother from Ahmedabad. This left not only Jethalal but also fans of the show and the Dayaben character disappointed.
Angry and upset fans took to social media to call out the makers for toying with their emotions for the sake of TV ratings. Reportedly, after teasing Dayaben’s return, the show’s TRP ratings saw a significant increase.

Disha Vakani, who portrayed the beloved character of Dayaben, initially took a maternity break in 2017 and left the show. She made a special appearance in 2019 and has been on a break since then. On the show’s 15th-anniversary celebration, Asit Modi, the show’s producer, announced Disha Vakani’s return. He stated, “In this 15-year journey, there’s one artist we can’t forget – Daya Bhabhi, aka Disha Vakani. She has entertained fans and made us laugh for all these years. Fans have been eagerly waiting for her return, and I promise you all that Disha Vakani will soon be back on ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.'”
