Drew Barrymore Hits Pause on Her Show Amid Hollywood Writers’ Strike

Drew Barrymore attends the 2023 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor presentation at The Kennedy Center on March 19, 2023 in Washington, DC.

Drew Barrymore recently made a surprising announcement regarding her talk show, ‘The Drew Barrymore Show.’ She revealed that the show’s premiere will be put on hold until the ongoing strikes in Hollywood come to an end. This decision marks a change from her initial plan to continue production despite the ongoing strikes by both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the SAG-AFTRA actors’ union.

The 48-year-old actress shared this news on her Instagram account, explaining her reasons for this change of heart. She stated, “I have listened to everyone, and I am making the decision to pause the show’s premiere until the strike is over.”

Barrymore went on to express her apologies, saying, “I have no words to express my deepest apologies to anyone I have hurt and, of course, to our incredible team who works on the show and has made it what it is today. We really tried to find our way forward.”

She concluded her statement with a hopeful note, “And I truly hope for a resolution for the entire industry very soon.”

In response, a spokesperson from CBS Media Ventures, the network behind Barrymore’s show, expressed support for her decision to halt the show’s return, acknowledging the complexity of the situation and the challenges Barrymore has faced.

Barrymore, who has been hosting her talk show since 2020, faced criticism for resuming production during the strikes. In her defense, she previously explained that the show’s third season had wrapped up on April 20, before the WGA strike began in May. She also clarified that they were in compliance with not discussing or promoting any struck film or television content.

This decision by Drew Barrymore aligns with the ongoing efforts in Hollywood to address the concerns raised by writers and actors, emphasizing the importance of fair working conditions and industry-wide solutions.
