One of Elon Musk’s children, Xavier Alexander Musk, in June 2021, submitted a request to legally change her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson, aligning with her new gender identity. Alongside this transition, she expressed her desire to disassociate herself from her biological father, Elon Musk. Recent revelations from Musk’s biographer, Walter Isaacson, in an excerpt from his book titled “Elon Musk,” published in The Wall Street Journal, shed light on the situation.
It appears that Musk’s daughter confided in her aunt about her gender transition but explicitly requested that her father not be informed. This revelation comes in the wake of Musk’s increasingly critical stance on issues related to gender identity.
According to the book excerpt, Vivian Jenna Wilson, then 16 years old, initially shared her gender transition with her aunt via text: “Hey, I’m transgender, and my name is now Jenna. Don’t tell my dad.”
The book also reads that Musk has labeled his daughter as a “Communist” and attributes their strained relationship to her California school, which costs a hefty $50,000 per year. Musk believes that the school influenced her, pushing her towards socialist and communist ideologies and fostering a negative view of wealthy individuals, including her father. Notably, Elon Musk himself possesses a substantial fortune, estimated at $257.5 billion.
While Musk has previously criticized “woke” schools for influencing his daughter’s choices, this marks the first instance of him naming the Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences as a factor in their strained relationship. Musk has openly expressed the deep pain he feels due to the separation from his daughter, equating it to one of the most painful experiences in his life, second only to the loss of his first child, who passed away at just 10 weeks old due to sudden infant death syndrome.
Interestingly, it appears that Musk’s relationship with his daughter has been strained more by his own actions and viewpoints than the influence of educational institutions. Musk has faced criticism for his outspoken and critical remarks about transgender issues, including his comments on pronoun usage and gender-affirming surgeries for minors. In 2020, while expressing support for transgender individuals, he disparaged the use of multiple pronouns, referring to it as an “esthetic nightmare.” More recently, he engaged with transphobic content on social media under the name “X” and liked transphobic posts during Pride Month.
This revelation adds a personal dimension to Elon Musk’s public stance on transgender issues, shedding light on the complexities within his family life.
