“Kisi Ke Baap Mein Dum Nahin Tha…”-Akshay Kumar Opens Up About Choosing Unconventional Films Like ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha,’ ‘Padman,’ and ‘OMG 2’ Despite Criticism

Akshay Kumar, the versatile Bollywood actor, recently shared insights into his choice of unconventional films, including ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha,’ ‘Padman,’ and ‘OMG 2,’ during the promotion of his latest film, ‘Mission Raniganj,’ which hit theaters on October 6. While ‘Mission Raniganj’ has garnered a mixed response from audiences, Akshay’s candid revelations shed light on the challenges he faced with his earlier offbeat film choices.

Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Akshay Kumar candidly disclosed the reactions he received when he embarked on projects that delved into topics like menstruation and sanitation facilities. The ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ actor shared that his unconventional film choices left people questioning his sanity.

He stated, “When I decided to make ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha,’ the title alone shocked everyone. People asked, ‘Are you crazy? Do you really want to make a film about toilets?’ They wondered who would make a movie on such a topic. I want to convey one thing – please don’t discourage me by fixating on the film’s commercial success. Instead, encourage the fact that we are making films like these, which are essential for our society.”

Akshay Kumar went on to reflect, “I ventured into a film about sanitary pads at a time when no one would even think about holding one. No one had the courage to make a film on sanitary pads. People were hesitant to even touch them. I remember an incident where I was the chief guest at an event, and someone came up to me, whispered in my ear, and asked me not to hand them a sanitary pad because ‘it doesn’t look good.’ This reflects the kind of mindset prevalent at that time.” Meanwhile, ‘OMG 2,’ another project featuring Akshay Kumar, has been released on Netflix.

As the actor navigates his film career, ‘Mission Raniganj’ has garnered positive reviews, leaving audiences eager to see how it performs at the box office. Akshay Kumar’s bold film choices, challenging societal norms, continue to make waves in the industry and spark important conversations.
