Lata Mangeshkar: Artists Come Together For A Musical Gathering On Her 2nd Death Anniversary

Two years have passed since the renowned Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar, known as the ‘Nightingale of India,’ passed away on February 6. On the occasion of her second death anniversary, the Indian Singers and Musicians Rights Association (ISAMRA) is organizing an event called Sangeetmay Baithak to honor the memory of the legendary singer.

The event

Lata Mangeshkar, who had an illustrious career spanning over 30,000 songs in various Indian languages, passed away in 2022. According to India TV, several artists from the music industry, such as Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Kunal Ganjawala, Suresh Wadkar, Shaan, Sudesh Bhosle, Shabbir Kumar, Nitin Mukesh, Lalit Pandit, Shailendra Singh, Sanjay Tandon, Annu Malik, Richa Sharma, Madhushree, Jaspinder Narula, Sadhna Sargam, and others, will pay tribute to her iconic songs today. Her sisters Asha Bhonsle and Usha Mangeshkar will also be in attendance, along with lyricists like Javed Akhtar and composers like Vishal Bharadwaj and Himesh Reshammiya.

Paying tribute

The CEO of ISAMRA, Sanjay Tandon, informed the identical publication, “ISAMRA is a big family of singers and musicians. It is very important that this family meets occasionally and knows about each other. I am very happy that the issue of royalty raised by Lata Mangeshkar in the 60s has now been resolved under ISAMRA. We will gather like a family and pay tribute to the late Lata Mangeshkar, we will pay our respects to her and remember her contribution.”

Lata Mangeshkar was born in 1929 in Indore to Marathi classical singer and actor Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar and his Gujarati wife Shevanti. From a young age, she aspired to become a singer and started her career as a child actor at thirteen following her father’s death. She later transitioned to singing and achieved fame with the song Aayega Aanewala from the movie Mahal in 1949. Throughout her career, Lata collaborated with a variety of composers including Anil Biswas, SD Burman, Hemant Kumar, and Usha Khanna.
