Shah Rukh Khan is the Pioneer of Cinema and Society

How do you put into words the unfathomable mystery that is Shah Rukh Khan? The year began with him making a four-year comeback by activating his action avatar in Pathaan. The celebrity wowed his admirers by portraying the religion-agnostic soldier who will go to any length for Bharat Maa. Many would have expected the joy among Jawan’s followers to fade after eight months, but Jawan has once again demonstrated his appeal. His representation in the film also reflects his status in the world of filmmaking and in India in general.

The action movie, directed by Atlee, is SRK’s “first pan-India film,” and he delivers with the flair of a real cinematic monarch. It’s no longer a secret that he plays two roles: father and son. The film may have begun with mystery around his persona, but we are quickly introduced to Azad, the town’s Robin Hood. However, it isn’t until the second half that we meet Vikram Rathore, who plays the villain with a genuinely meta sentence, ‘Bete ko haath lagane se pehle, baap se baat kar’. At this point, it’s clear that Shah Rukh Khan isn’t just playing a role; he’s speaking directly to his supporters and detractors. Throughout the film, King Khan addresses issues that few would dare to address.

Jawan: A heartfelt action picture

The film promises excitement and drama — exactly what the audience expected — as well as a slew of important lessons. Farmer suicides, a hot issue that is rarely addressed in the media or public sphere, are addressed in a pivotal scene in the film. The scenario may appear overly dramatic in the film, yet it reflects the harsh reality of India.

If you thought it was a brave issue to choose, Shah Rukh and Atlee also discussed corruption in the medical profession. Sanya Malhotra’s character, based on Dr. Kafeel Khan, is accused of several infant deaths because she chose to rebel against the system. Jawan also mentioned the faulty weapon delivered to the army, reminiscent of the INSAS (Indian National Small Arms Systems) affair. According to The Week, the guns have troubled India’s military forces since their introduction in the 1990s.

As you wrestle with the myriad sociological insights, Shah Rukh Khan delivers a monologue that many political parties (particularly the opposition) have previously claimed. The superstar interacts with the crowd, asking them why they vote for religion, money, or terror. Why don’t they ask politicians what they plan to do to help their families, communities, and even the country? “Puchho usse ki agle 5 saal mein kya karoge?” If parivaar mein koi bimar ho jaaye, kya karoge uske ilaaj ke liye? What is the meaning of naukri dilaane ke liye? “Aage badhaane ke liye kya karoge?” In this dramatic scene, SRK’s character, Azad, implores his fans to hold the government accountable.

In an era when everyone preaches about female empowerment, Shah Rukh Khan walks the walk. In the film, his army consists of six female captives who address him as “Chief.” A few of them have been wrongfully charged, while others have turned to vigilantism as a result of systemic oppression. The film highlights SRK’s constant dedication to pushing for female equality and respect. His women, whether Deepika Padukone or Nayanthara, also play tough parts. Deepika packs a punch and even pins SRK in her entrance sequence, while Nayanthara fights him in another action moment. Also, full points to the filmmakers for having a female lead discuss having a baby with her boyfriend and raising the child as a single mother.

While Shah Rukh Khan has put a blanket embargo on the media in the previous two years, he makes strong, fearless statements through Jawan. He confronts major societal issues, challenges the current quo, and inspires women via his character, all while delivering a powerful message of political accountability. His performance in Jawan not only entertains but also provokes thought about the world we live in, making him a true force to be reckoned with. In his own words, he is the “last of the stars,” but admirers believe that Shah Rukh is the “baap of all stars.”
