A 2023 horror movie titled The Pope’s Exorcist centers on “Father Gabriele Amorth, chief exorcist for the Vatican, who battles Satan and innocent-possessing demons.” The movie, which features Russell Crowe, is “a detailed portrait of a priest who performed more than 100,000 exorcisms in his lifetime.” Doug Belgrad is the director and Julius Avery is the producer. The movie also stars Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe, and Franco Nero in addition to Russell Crowe.

Midsommar

A cast of actors including Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, Ellora Torchia, Archie Madekwe, and Will Poulter appear in the 2019 folk horror movie Midsommar. Ari Aster (Hereditary) wrote and directed the movie. The movie’s synopsis says, “A couple travels to Northern Europe to visit a rural hometown’s fabled Swedish mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.”

The film has an IMDb rating of 7.1 and an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is frequently referred to as one of the “most disturbing” films of all time.
